With more than two million of visitors every year, Pompei is the Italian most visited archeologic site, and the second in the world. His history begans in 79 a.C. with the eruption of the Vesuvio, wich completely buried the ancient city with dust and volcanic ash. And 1700 years later the city returned by the light of the sun.
Essences, feelings and unique emotions constitute the charme that only Pompei has got, beautiful but especially human and touching. There isn't a specific itinerary, just a lots of different ways according to time and interests.
For who wants to explore the excavations we suggest to enter from Porta Marina, not far from the Antiquarium Museum, wich houses the testimony of the life of the ancient citizens. Among the public buildings the most representative are the Foro, with annexed Spas, the Basilica, center of the economic life and the Anfiteatro, the most ancient and knowed, built 100 years before of the Colosseum. Because of the great part of the area is taken by private habitations, we suggest you to visit Casa del Fauno, Casa del chirurgo, the luxurious and magnificent Casa dei Vettii, Casa di Giulia Felice and the pretty Casa degli amanti.
Certainly Pompei is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past.
